Class Description:
Using a variety of footwork stylings from Swing, Blues, Soul, and Hip-Hop, we'll discuss how these movements are interrelated, how they change based on the musical genres, and how to properly apply them in different fusion dances without throwing off your partner.
Instructor Bio:
Kenneth Shipp hails from St. Louis, MO as an instructor who grew up dancing hip-hop and DJing breaking comps before jumping into blues. He has spent the past few years passionately studying the family of blues idioms, incorporating his nerdy personality along the way. Kenneth’s life experiences inform his dancing and teaching style so that students walk away with a better historical and contextual understanding. With every class and practice, he'll encourage you to approach social dancing with coolness, relaxation, or in other words “Chill The F$%& Out.” When he’s not dancing, you can likely find him ranting about the latest blockbuster movie, game, or nerd convention, or desperately trying to dismantle toxic institutions.
Bio:
Hannah has been DJing house parties and fusion events since she started dancing in Oklahoma in 2010. She loves mixing things up with different genres, tones, and languages, and playing music that gets people thinking creatively about new ways they can move their bodies and interact with their dance partners. She’s also a sucker for cultivating a theme or narrative throughout her sets.
Bio:
Devon started her DJ journey playing for Boulder Blues and house parties in the greater Denver area. She brings songs with deep beats, strong vocals, and big emotions to encourage drama on the dance floor
